Take-off

A take-off is part of the cost estimating process in the construction industry. Using construction blueprints, estimators start "taking off" quantities of items they will need from those blueprints in order to prepare part of the estimate. Examples of possible take offs include the number of doors needed in the building plan or the amount of wiring needed for the electrical work.

Tenon

A projection on the end of a piece of wood shaped for insertion into a mortise to make a joint.

Transom

A horizontal crosspiece over a door or between a door and a window above it. Transom may also refer to a small window (often hinged) above a door or another window.
