Special-Lite, Inc. manufactures complete heavy-duty exterior entrance systems for new construction and replacement use in the commercial construction market in North America. Specify a Special-Lite® Entrance and enjoy the convenience, reliability and performance advantages of having a complete, ready-to-install entrance.
Special-Lite, Inc. has a long history of producing entrance products that provide longer service life even in the most demanding markets. Their high-performance, custom-fabricated entrance systems include flush doors, monumental doors, framing, panels, vision lites, and related hardware products for new construction, renovation or replacement requirements. A unique design approach allows them to build heavy-duty doors that are light, flexible, look new longer and extend the life of the door, framing and hardware.
Every door and frame made is a custom solution, made to order. We have the services and support to bring your design ideas to life with the right entrance system to suit your application. We can even provide you with computer-generated design renderings to help with the specification and design process.
We believe that the basic principles of sustainable building should be applied to entrances, too. As a functional part of the building envelope, entrances play a key role. Their appearance throughout their lifetime makes a lasting impression on all building visitors. Their ability to perform in their environment could have a disproportionate impact on facility maintenance activities and costs. Plus, they can contribute to overall occupant health, safety and welfare.
Special-Lite® entrances are specifically designed to contribute to the goals of sustainability. Their performance in use, extended service life, lower lifecycle cost, reduced impact on occupant health, and better thermal efficiency help to conserve material resources and energy, while contributing to occupant well being.
The LEED program, introduced by the U.S. Green Building Council in 2001, is the dominant building certification program in the U.S. Specifying Special-Lite or any particular type or brand of entrance product will not earn LEED points outright. But specifying entrance products having performance advantages consistent with specific LEED point requirements can certainly help to earn points.
Special-Lite does not use post-consumer recycled aluminum content because it produces an inferior surface finish that does not meet the aesthetic requirements of the architectural community or the quality expectations of our customers.
Our aluminum framing and monumental doors are easily disassembled and fully recyclable after use. The FRP and AMP face sheets and urethane foam core material in our flush doors are thermoset plastics and are not recyclable using current commercial processes. These materials are essentially inert, so they can be safely disposed of at the end of their service life without adverse impacts on water, soil, or air quality.
